Author FAQ

Book marketing, answered

What is an indie author?

An indie (independent) author publishes their own work rather than going through a traditional publishing house — often via self-publishing platforms. It means you keep creative control and a bigger share of royalties, but you're also responsible for the marketing. That last part is where I come in.

How do I market a self-published book?

Start before you launch, not after. The essentials: a clear positioning and audience, an author platform (website + newsletter), a launch plan with a defined release-week push, targeted paid promotion, and ongoing content so readers keep finding you. My packages bundle these into a step-by-step roadmap so nothing gets missed.

Do I really need PR for my book?

You don't need a six-figure publicist — but you do need visibility. Thoughtful PR (media outreach, podcasts, features, a strong media kit) builds the credibility and discovery that ads alone can't. I scale the PR effort to your goals and budget.

When should I start marketing my book?

Ideally 2–3 months before release, so there's time to build an audience and line up coverage. That said, it's never too late — plenty of books find their readers well after launch with the right strategy.

How much does book marketing cost with DFM?

My signature packages run $1,000 (Diamond), $2,500 (VIP), and $5,000 (Elite), plus à la carte options like paid ad copy and email sequences. Every tier is built to be money-conscious. See the Services page for full details, or book a free consultation and I'll recommend a fit.
